Kitchen designer Lydia Corser gave her kitchen a green makeover with the help of her husband, Brian Corser, who did the construction.

The black counter is Richlite, a paper and resin composite. The bar top in the foreground is reclaimed claro walnut from a noncommercially harvested local tree. Backsplash tiles are 100 percent pre-consumer recycled glass from Sandhill Industries.
The linoleum floor is Marmoleum by Forbo.

The floor underlayment is SierraPine's Medite II, a medium-density fiberboard with no added formaldehyde. The cabinets, made by Neil Kelly Cabinets, have formaldehyde-free wheatboard boxes; the light-colored cabinet door panels are Dakota Burl, manufactured with sunflower seed hulls, from Environ Biocomposites. The Corsers used FSC-certified framing lumber and Ultratouch recycled cotton insulation. The Sub-Zero refrigerator and Bosch dishwasher are Energy Star approved.
